Core Mathematics

LOVE YOUR SUBJECT?
KNOW YOUR CAREER WILL INVOLVE SOME MATHS BUT DON’T WANT TO STUDY A-LEVEL MATHS?

Then Core Maths is for you. Core Maths is an excellent subject to go alongside your other three subjects to keep your maths skill development going beyond GCSE. It is also recommended you do this if your other courses have Maths in them and you are not studying A-level Maths. The equivalent of half an A-level and studied over two years you will cover such topics as:

  • Probability and statistical analysis
  • Gannt Diagrams
  • Tax calculations

Studying Core Maths will help you keep up these essential skills, as many careers have maths at their centre, such as:

  • Science and Geography
  • Business studies and Economics
  • Psychology

“Core Maths builds upon and strengthens the existing skills developed during their GCSE maths course. There is a sharper focus on problem-solving and using and applying mathematics to solve problems relevant to students’ everyday lives. This includes financial applications of mathematics as well as further statistical ideas that can support work in other subjects such as Psychology, Business Studies, Geography, Sociology, Economics and Biology.”

Mr Patterson (Core Maths Teacher)

STUDENT: MATTHEW MCLACHLAN RH6 2018 - 2020

“I enjoyed Core Maths as it taught me about real world problems that can be solved by Maths such as taxes and estimation. You can apply a lot of these skills to real world situations.”
