The course studies the theory side of sport and recreation as well as looking at practical aspects that could be applied within university degrees or in the world of work.

Entry Requirements:

5 GCSEs, grade 4 or above, including Maths and English

Last three years destinations:
  • BA (Hons) in Sports & Exercise Science at Edge Hill University
  • BA (Hons) Applied Sports Psychology at Liverpool John Moores University
  • BA (Hons) Performance Analysis in Sport at University of Derby

The course covers a wide variety of areas such as sports participation and also the organisation of sporting events where consideration is given to the parties and institute that make sport and recreation available to the masses.

Course Aims

The study of anatomy and physiology throughout the course is deep and thought provoking and will allow students to apply scientific reasoning to why the body reacts to exercise in certain ways. Furthermore the sports coaching unit will allow students to build up a portfolio of coaching that will allow them to improve, not only as a sports coach, but as well-rounded individual.

The course covers lots of areas of the exciting world of sport, preparing you for many different sport related university courses or jobs when you have finished. From looking at theoretical science work through to sports psychology it is sure to be an interesting two years. The course is a mix of classroom based work and practical coaching experience that takes you into the community. Throughout your two years there will be opportunities to represent the school in a variety of sports and the ski trip is always a highlight of any school year

Progression

Students who study Sport progress to a range of destinations.

These can include degree studies in Sport, Coaching and Sports Science.

The course would allow progression to many careers such as:

  • Teaching

Exam

The weighting of assessment is 58% internal assessment and 42% external assessment.

The internal coursework assignments are set and marked by your teacher and then externally moderated. You will complete a series of practical tasks set in a work-related scenario.

The external assessment is two written examination papers which are set and marked by the exam board.
