This is a practical and challenging two year programme of study, equivalent to one A level. This course covers general units such as Database Design alongside specialised aspects of information technology, such as website development.

Course Aims

The BTEC Level 3 Information and Communication Technology course is the most focused IT qualification that is available at this level. It is very practical in nature and is taught by staff with many years of experience. Students will find it both challenging and rewarding.

The practical aspect of this course provides the relevant skills that employers want.

It’s challenging, it’s fast-paced. Today’s technological environment requires you to be able to adapt in the changing world. This means you need to have up to date knowledge and a wide range of skills. The government is predicting significant skill shortages for digital workers given the changing macro-economic environment that organisations will be operating in. This course incorporates the skills and knowledge that many employers are now actively seeking – such as social media marketing and understanding technology systems alongside creating and using applications

Progression

The course prepares you for progression to an Honours Degree in Computing or IT. It is also a stepping stone to employment in the IT industry. Career options may include Software Engineering, Technical Support, Systems Analysis or Network Engineering.

Exam

The weighting of assessment is 33.3% assignments and 66.7% examination.

The assignments are set and marked by your teacher and then externally moderated.

The examinations are set and marked by the exam board as paper based exam.
