Whether you are looking to study facilitating subjects or more arts based subjects, there is an A-level course for you. Rainhill Sixth Form also offers a range of highly successful BTEC courses at Level 3. A-level and BTEC courses can be flexibly combined, allowing you a personalised study program. Although we are attached to the main school, we have a different identity and atmosphere whilst still aiming for high academic success. We have proven to be a fantastic choice for our existing Rainhill High School students as well as those coming from other schools.
Rainhill Sixth Curriculum
Rainhill Sixth offers a curriculum with a diverse range of subjects and styles of assessment to suit the needs of a diverse intake. We ensure students have full Gatsby benchmark coverage in the Curriculum offer to leave them well skilled, aware of progression options and with contacts in academia and employment opportunities in the local area. We also ensure that extra curricular as well as Supercurricular pursuits help them leave as a valuable and active citizen, with age appropriate PSHCE activities along with charitable work. All in a supportive environment where wellbeing, work life balance and enjoyment are at its core.
Pathways in the Curriculum Offer
Students are given advice through Year 11 in one to one discussions and entry Interviews. They have enrolment discussions with experienced Sixth Form staff who ensure they choose the right courses based on their academic profiles and future ambitions.
A-level- Students with the entry grade profile for the subjects can complete any A-level subjects
Mixed- We are as aspirational as can be, sometimes some students value the vocational approach to subjects and we allow a mixed option.
Applied General/Technical- For some students the vocational route matches their learning and progression needs and they complete any of these qualifications.
Within these academic groups we also have progress groups to target the right support for students
Scholars Programme- For high performers looking at Oxbridge/Medical/Veterinary applications (early applicants and extra exams/interview preparation)
Honours Programme- for students aiming to be at Russell Group universities
Uni ready group- For all other students considering university as their next step
Work ready group- Specific events aimed at awareness of what is available and where with regard to apprenticeships
All students can mix and match in activities to be fully informed of all potential future options.
We also have a brand new partnership for 2019-2020 with FEFA. FEFA was launched in 2015 by former Liverpool and England striker Robbie Fowler, and its education results are already impressive. A partnership with Rainhill Sixth Form will enable young talented football players to gain a quality A Level education whilst further developing their sporting talents. Our FEFA partnership is open to both male and female players and we are very excited about this development.
Our strength is our size
Being large enough to offer a diverse curriculum and small enough to support students in academic studies and future progression. Small class sizes mean we are able to provide tailored support and guidance. This allows us to offer students the broadest choices tailored to their individual needs. This is all delivered within a student focused environment.
We believe that getting you on the right courses at Rainhill Sixth Form is the key to success. To ensure the right choices are made, we provide you guidance interviews and taster days throughout the year. We are happy to receive calls or visitors. We are happy to discuss any aspect of Sixth Form Life at Rainhill. So, if you want to get in touch, please call or email. We are proud that we offer a great experience and want to share it with you. I look forward to meeting you and discussing your application further.Mr David Hemsley - Director of Sixth Form
Outstanding enrichment programme
Our Sixth Form extends beyond what happens in the classroom. We encourage our students to plan for their future, giving them weekly experiences tailored to their needs and interests. Our Supercurriculum, Science and Arts Academies are some of the best provisions in the area and this has been confirmed by HMI. We are also extending our extra curricular provision in 2019-2020. We already have a successful boys football team and tennis club. Next year, we are introducing a girls football team and netball. We are a responsive sixth form and these clubs have been developed from feedback we have had from current Year 11 students. If there is something you want to see, just ask.
Excellent exam results
Our exam results are excellent too. We are consistently one of the leading post 16 educators in the area, with excellent exam results. More importantly, we have had improving results for the last four years. Joining us and gaining excellent exam results opens doors to top universities, apprenticeships and employment. This year saw our Oxbridge applications double. Over 70% of students that applied to Oxbridge gained an interview and we had successful offers too. Our University applications have risen and over 60% of our students apply to Russell group Universities. Last year, more students than ever gained degree apprenticeships and our NEET figure were well above average.
